Mochida ancient Burial Mounds

The Mochida group is the special historic site of about 85 burial mounds.

Eighty-five (85) different types of tombs are spread out around this area. The tombs were built from the 5th century to 6th century. The Mochida tomb group is known for many rare tombs such as the Ishifune mound with exposed stone coffins (these artifacts are stored in Saitobaru Archaeological museum, Miyazaki). The Hakari-zuka tomb, at 20 meters in length, was a common size for ancient tombs in Miyazaki prefecture. The Kame-zuka tombs, which are interestingly shaped like scallop shells
